VINTAGE WOOD FARM TOOLS

I have no idea what either of these tools were used for.  The black framed item with the brown block of wood appears to be some kind of towing device.  The long wood handled tool appears very old...possibly 100 years plus...and looks like it was a two or three person operation based on the handle grips on each side...two to hold the tool down on each end, and one person to operate the tool.
